Butch Pierce never initially had racing on his mind. He started working as a roofer in 1968 and has been in the trade ever since. He moved to Orlando, Florida in 1981 and started his own company, Architectural Sheet Metal, which he runs along with his wife, Barbara. They began by only making flashing for tile roofs and it eventually evolved into all aspects of sheet metal used in roofing today. His wife Barbara was the avid racer. She is responsible for getting him involved in the sport during the late 1980’s. Butch eventually made a name for himself racing small cars in an oval and a figure-8 track. He was approached by the track early on to be |
a part of the School Bus Figure-8 race and he enthusiastically said yes. Somehow, Butch was never able to finish a school bus race. He was always taken out by either a mechanical malfunction or simply a bad collision. Eventually, he managed to survive all twenty laps and took home a win. Currently Butch helps run the Goodyear Challenge Late Model Series and often works as a flag man during the regular races at Orlando Speedworld and New Smyrna Speedway. He also spends much of his spare time helping his son Chad make a name for himself in the world of stock car racing. |
